Hate crimes in the heartland

We gathered at our beautiful urban farm for a meal, a movie and discussion on May 18, 2015. I did not much like the movie, because I did not understand why the focus was on the senseless murders by 2 deranged cold-blooded killers who drove around killing 5 men. The killers were not clearly white, one has a black brother, and the murdered were all black. The killers were tried and convicted of murder.

I was disappointed that we did not learn more about the Black Wall Street, although of course, from the title of the movie, we were not going to learn much about that. I would like to know what happened to the survivors. Did any of these brilliant business folks rise out of the ashes and start again successful businesses?
